The Contest by Judy Wendkos, at Art on the Beach 3 (1981)

Gina Wendkos created a full-scale beach club with plaster swimming pool, deck chairs, and umbrellas that served as a backdrop for the performance piece The Contest, in which she marshaled legions of aspiring bathing-beauties and celebrity look-alikes into a performative display.
